You might have found this page from Instagram (@thebestbityet) — here's a bit more about me.

Hi, I'm Fiona.

Midlife is when so many of us start taking stock of where we are — and thinking more deliberately about how we want to live and make the most of what's ahead.

The Best Bit Yet grew out of my own experience of doing exactly that: stepping back, taking stock and working out what I wanted the second half of my life to look like.

What started as a very personal exercise has grown into a place to share the ideas, tools, conversations and experiments that have helped me navigate my own career pivot and think differently about what comes next.

My hope is that it helps you do the same in whatever way is right for you — to get clearer about what you want, make more conscious choices about what comes next, and genuinely believe that the best bit might still be ahead.

Background

I spent most of my career in senior international marketing roles at Microsoft, Amazon and Apple, most recently as Head of International Marketing within Apple's Services division. I know what it means — and what it takes — to manage the juggle while climbing the ladder. I did it for more than two decades.

Along the way, life changed too. I rebuilt after divorce, came uncomfortably close to burnout in my forties, and started questioning some of the assumptions I'd made about success, ambition and what a good life was supposed to look like.

But leaving corporate wasn't the result of a crisis. It was something quieter.

I enjoyed my job. I was good at it. But I realised that work was only one part of who I was, while taking up the vast majority of my time and energy. And increasingly, that equation didn't make sense to me — particularly as I thought about the last few precious years with my teenagers still at home.

I found myself asking a different question. Not what should I do next? but how do I actually want my life to look?

That question became the starting point for The Best Bit Yet.

I'm still figuring out my own answer. I'm building a portfolio career, starting new things, returning to old interests, experimenting, learning and trying to be much more deliberate about where I put my time and energy.

And I'm fascinated by what happens when women reach this stage of life and start asking similar questions. What do we want now? What are we ready to let go of? What might we do differently? And what if, rather than seeing midlife as a period of narrowing possibilities, we treated it as an opportunity to create something new?

The Best Bit Yet is where I explore those questions — through conversations, coaching, research and my own experiments in what comes next.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, my interests have never fitted neatly into one box. I hold a PhD in Communication Sciences, am an IAPC&M-accredited Coach Practitioner, and completed the Oxford AI Programme at Saïd Business School. I'm also a qualified yoga teacher (200 hours) and have trained in a range of other holistic practices — a fairly eclectic mix that probably says as much about me as any single job title could.

Why The Best Bit Yet

Everything I create for The Best Bit Yet is designed to help you get clearer about what you want next. I'm not interested in telling you to quit your job, blow up your life or become a completely different person. I'm interested in helping you make conscious choices about what comes next — with your eyes open to the practical realities, your values, your energy, your strengths, and what matters to you now.

There's no single right way to do what comes next. The point is to make sure the choices you make are genuinely yours.
